Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) supports children to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives and to become confident, responsible members of their communities.

PSHE contributes to the development of the whole child. Through learning, discussion, reflection and opportunities across school life, children develop their understanding of themselves and others, learn to build positive relationships and consider the choices and responsibilities they have as they grow.

Our wider provision gives children opportunities to talk about their experiences and feelings, explore relationships, consider the needs of others, show empathy, develop self-esteem and respect for others, and develop a sense of belonging.

Learning Beyond PSHE Lessons

Children's personal and social development extends beyond individual PSHE lessons and is embedded within the wider life of King’s Cliffe Endowed.

Our provision for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development supports children to become reflective and inquisitive learners who understand and respect the experiences and perspectives of others. Children are encouraged to recognise right and wrong, understand the consequences of their actions, work successfully with others and participate positively in their communities.

Opportunities including assemblies, pupil leadership, sports leadership, community projects, enrichment and extra-curricular activities further contribute to children's personal development.

Thinking Actively in a Social Context (TASC)

TASC – Thinking Actively in a Social Context – provides children with opportunities to take an active role in their learning, work with others and demonstrate what they have learned.

Through TASC, children develop skills of research, investigation, problem-solving and self-assessment, while developing a positive view of themselves as active learners.

Children use the elements of the TASC wheel to support their thinking:

TASC events also provide opportunities for children to share their learning with their families. In the summer term, children take part in an Enterprise event, applying their learning as they consider the different elements involved in setting up and running a small business.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) 

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development is woven throughout school life and across the curriculum.

We want children to develop an understanding of themselves and others, recognise and respect different beliefs, cultures and perspectives, make responsible choices and understand how they can contribute positively to their community and wider society.

Our approach supports children's development across four interconnected areas: spiritual development, including reflection, beliefs, creativity and curiosity; moral development, including right and wrong, consequences and ethical questions; social development, including cooperation, participation, relationships and resolving conflict; and cultural development, including understanding and respecting the diverse cultures and traditions of modern Britain and the wider world.

Fundamental British Values are also promoted through the curriculum and wider life of the school, supporting children to understand democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
