The Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination and identifies nine protected characteristics. We ensure that equality and respect for others are reflected throughout our curriculum, policies, values and behaviours.

As a school, we also have a legal responsibility under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) to have due regard to the need to:

• eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act
• advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
• foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

Our Equality Duties

To demonstrate how we meet the Public Sector Equality Duty, we:

• publish information about how we comply with the duty and update this annually
• set and publish one or more specific and measurable Equality Objectives, which are reviewed and updated at least every four years.
