Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum is ambitious for every child. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and inspiring education that enables all pupils to fulfil their potential, both academically and personally.

We want our children to be respectful of the diverse world in which they live, showing consideration for the values, beliefs and experiences of others.

We encourage them to be resilient: developing confidence, self-discipline and high aspirations, while understanding that challenge and perseverance are an important part of learning.

We want our children to be reflective learners who are curious, think carefully about their learning and recognise how they can continue to improve.

Children’s physical and mental well-being are central to the education we provide. We aim to nurture self-worth, independence and a strong sense of responsibility so that our children are well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain and the wider world.

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum and is carefully planned to ensure that children build their knowledge and skills progressively as they move through the school.

Curriculum maps for each year group and subject provide clarity about what children will learn and how their knowledge develops over time. Teachers use assessment, questioning, appropriate support and carefully chosen resources to help every child make progress and experience success.

Learning is brought to life through a range of teaching approaches and purposeful opportunities that encourage children to think, question, explore and become increasingly independent.

Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom. Clubs, visitors, trips, workshops, outdoor learning and residential experiences enrich children’s learning and deepen their understanding of the world and their place within it.

Throughout everything we teach, our three curriculum drivers – Respect, Resilience and Reflection – help children develop the confidence, attitudes and values they need to follow their interests and achieve their potential.

Curriculum Impact

We want our children to leave Kings Cliffe Endowed Primary School as knowledgeable, confident and enthusiastic learners who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

We have high expectations for all pupils and use assessment across the curriculum to understand what children know, remember and can do, identify their next steps and ensure that they make progress.

The impact of our curriculum can also be seen beyond academic outcomes: in the attitudes and behaviours children demonstrate, the quality of the work they produce, their growing independence and the contributions they make to our school and wider community.

Our aim is for every child to leave us with strong foundations for lifelong learning, a clear sense of their own values and the confidence to continue growing a love for learning beyond our school gates.

Enriching Our Curriculum

We believe that some of the most memorable learning happens through experiences beyond the everyday classroom.

Each year group has at least three enrichment opportunities each year, including at least one visit beyond school. Children in Years 3 and 4 also have the opportunity to take part in a two-night residential, while Years 5 and 6 have a four-night residential. These residential opportunities take place biennially to help spread the cost for families.

Teachers also make use of our school environment and outdoor learning opportunities to give children different ways to explore, experience and apply their learning.

We follow the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework and National Curriculum for England, while designing learning that reflects our children, our community and our school values.
