School Houses
Every pupil belongs to one of 4 Houses. The Houses have a historical figurehead, and are lead by a class teacher. House points are awarded throughout the week to reward positive behaviour and effort. At the end of each term a cup is awarded to the House with most points. Children compete in their house groups at Sports Day and this contributes to the points total for the overall House winner for the year.
The Houses and House Colours are:
Marie Curie - Yellow
A Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person (and only woman) to win twice and the only person to win twice in multiple sciences. She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris.
Charles Darwin - Green
An English naturalist and geologist best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors through a process that he called natural selection.
Mary Anning - Blue
A British fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist who became known around the world for important finds she made in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel. Her work contributed to fundamental changes in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth.
Isaac Newton - Red
An English physicist and mathematician (described in his own day as a "natural philosopher") who is widely recognised as one of the most influential scientists of all time and as a key figure in the scientific revolution.
