Our School Council gives children an opportunity to have a voice in school life and to represent the views and ideas of their classmates.

Two representatives from each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, are elected by their peers. Children who would like to become a representative have the opportunity to give a short speech explaining why they would like to join the School Council.

Representatives meet regularly to discuss ideas and issues that are important to children across the school. They share the views of their classmates, contribute their own ideas and report back following meetings. They may also invite members of staff, including the Headteacher, to join their discussions where appropriate.

What Does the School Council Do?

Our School Council:

• represents the views and ideas of children across the school
• discusses ways in which we can make our school an even better place
• helps to organise and support charity and fundraising activities
• shares decisions and ideas with classes and through whole-school assemblies
• gives children experience of democracy, responsibility and decision-making

The School Council usually meets every three to four weeks to discuss current priorities, upcoming events and ideas raised by pupils.

Our Chosen Charities

Each year, our School Council helps to decide which charities the school will support.

For 2025/26, our School Council has chosen to support:

• Cancer Research UK
• The Salvation Army

These charities were discussed and selected by the pupil representatives at their first School Council meeting of the year.

Being a School Council representative gives children the opportunity to develop their confidence, communication and leadership skills, while experiencing first-hand how listening to others and working together can bring about positive change.
